Sat 5 Jul – Googong Dam to Dodsworth – 9km Easy (7)

From the Googong Dam picnic area we follow the boundary of the Cuumbeun Nature reserve across a saddle to follow Valley Creek to the outskirts of Queanbeyan. The creek banks are open scrub. Car shuffle required. Climb: 150m. Cars: 13km ($2). Maps: Hoskinstown, Bungendore and Canberra. Meet at Q.

Sun 6 Jul – CIRCUIT SOUTH OF SMOKERS GAP – 11km Med (10)

This is a circuit walk from Smokers Trail car park. We walk two and a half kilometres south, then swing west, walking steeply down to a creek, then north back to the fire trail, completing the walk on the trail. Half of the distance is off track with typical Namadgi rock outcrops. Yes, we are in post-fire Namadgi, and the scrub gets challenging in places. Climb: 340m. Cars: 80km ($8). Map: Corin Dam. An easy walk along the western foreshores of the Googong Dam from Tin Hut car park to the spillway. No significant climbs. Car shuffle required. Cars: 30km ($3). Map: Hoskinstown. Meet at Q.

Sat 12 Jul – Legoland from Orroral Valley – 13km Med (9)

From the Orroral car park we cross the bridge over the Orroral River and follow the Link Road up to the Legoland car park. Then south-east along the ridge, past the two boulders shown on the map, and look for the best way back to Orroral Valley. Climb: 450m. Cars: 100km ($10). Maps: Rendezvous Creek and Corin Dam. Sun 13 Jul – BENDOURA HILL, SNOW GUM HILL – 10km Easy (6)

From Moonlight Hollow and Chalet Road junction we climb 200m to Bendora Hill, then follow the NSW/ACT border track on to Snowgum Hill. Return via Chalet Road. All walking on tracks or fire trails. Climb: 250m. Cars: 100km ($10). Map: Tidbinbilla. Meet at W.

From Yankee Hat car park we walk to Boboyan Trig via Little Dry Creek and then return via Hospital Creek. Mostly off track with some scrub and rock scrambling. Excellent views. Climb: 500m. Cars 100km ($10). Maps: Yaouk and Colinton. Meet at K at 8.00am******.

From Tidbinbilla Discovery Centre open walk on fire trails to rebuilt Nil Desperandum homestead. Views over Tidbinbilla Valley at morning tea. Climb: 100m. Cars: 50km ($5). Map: Tidbinbilla. Meet at K.

Sun 20 Jul – BRADLEYS CREEK AND HELLS HOLE from GOOGONG DAM – 10km Med (9)

This is a good winter walk, steep in parts. We park at the locked gate 1km north of Googong Dam, and walk up the Queanbeyan River Fire Trail to Gorman Trig (with views), and down to Bradleys Creek, then walk off track down the creek on boulders (1km) to Hells Hole for lunch. After lunch steeply up the spur to Gorman Trig, and back down the fire trail to the cars. Climb: 500m. Map: Hoskinstown. Cars: 30km ($3). Meet at Q.

Sat 26 Jul – MOUNT TENNENT VIA THE EASTERN SPUR – 8km Med (11)
Leader: Allan M We will start from the high point on the road about 1km south of the Alpine track, go through a saddle, and then steeply through the bush up a spur to the fire tower on Mount Tennent for good views of Canberra and Namadgi. We return down about 200m of fire trail and then the Alpine Track. Climb: 700m. Cars: 60km ($6). Map: Williamsdale. Meet at K.

Sun 27 Jul – Mt Ainslie AND Mt Majura – 12km Easy (7)

From the War Memorial we walk east and follow the base of Mt Ainslie towards Mt Majura. We then go up onto the ridge to Mt Majura and then back over Mt Ainslie and down to the cars. Maps: Canberra, Hall. Meet at the rear War Memorial car park, 8.45am***.

From Brandy Flat south car park follow Brandy Flat fire trail for 2km, then climb west slope of Booth Range. South along the range for 2–3km and back down the west slope to the cars. Climb: 770m. Cars: 100km ($10). Map: Michelago. Meet at K.

Sun 3 Aug – Naas Creek GUDGENBY SADDLE – 23km Hard (12)

From the Boboyan (Yankee Hat) car park we follow the Old Boboyan Road south to Naas Creek. We turn NW to follow Sams Creek Fire Trail along the Naas valley, turning NE to cross the saddle just south of Mount Gudgenby, and return along Bogong Creek. Climb: 350m. Cars: 130km ($13). Sun 3 Aug – Old Mill Road (Modified) – 13km Easy (6)

About 2km along Mount Franklin Rd from Piccadilly Circus, we start the walk on a road leading to Old Mill Road. Walk along Old Mill Rd to Warks Rd and then on to Warks Camp. Cross Bendora Rd and go through the locked gate onto the continuation of Warks Road, then into Gravel Road, Moonlight Hollow Rd, and back to the cars. A short car shuffle is required to take the cars on to Bendora Rd before parking them at the locked gate to Moonlight Hollow Road. The walk is all on fire trails. Climb: 200m. Cars: 100km ($10). Open walk on fire trail along edge of Bullen Range to pisé homestead ruin for late morning tea. Return south along creek & open ridgeline to lunch at Barnes Trig overlooking Lanyon valley. Early afternoon finish. Climb: 200m. Cars: 30km ($3). Map: Tuggeranong. Meet at K.

Sun 10 Aug – MOUNT GINGERA FROM CORIN DAM – 18km Hard (13)
Leader:
Mac K From Corin Dam we have a long ascent to Stockyard Spur and then along the ridge to join the Mount Franklin Road beneath Little Ginini Mountain. We follow the road south, passing Priors Hut, and after about 2km turn to follow the track to the top of Gingera. Return via the same route. Cars: 90km ($9). Map: Corin Dam. Meet at K at 8.15am***.

From Pikes Saddle walk along the fire trail to Big Badja for views across to the ocean, Mt Dromedary and the Main Range of the Snowy Mts. Then through medium scrub to a magnificent view over the Woila Gorge for lunch. Climb: 350m. Cars: 240km ($24). Maps: Badja, Snowball. Meet at Q at 8.00am***.

From the car park on the Boboyan Road near Gudgenby homestead turnoff we walk on track along the valley through open grassland to what remains of Rowleys hut. Returning via a slightly different route across the gently undulating grassland back to cars. Climb: 200m. Cars: 120km ($12). Map: Rendezvous Creek. Meet at K.

Sun 17 Aug – ORRORAL VALLEY HLL 1339 – 12km Med (10)

Bob C From the Orroral Tracking Station car park, climbing 200m along the way, we walk 5km along the Cotter Road/Alps track to the weather station near the source of Prairie Dog Creek. We leave the track and climb 200m through medium forest on a heading of roughly north until we reach the rocky knoll marked as point 1339, where we hope to find views over the valley. After lunch, we will descend steeply to the grassy valley and follow the Orroral River back to the cars. Some rock scrambling is possible. Cars: 100km ($10). Maps: Corin Dam/Rendezvous Creek. Walk part way up the Camel Back fire trail and then take a steep route through regrowth to the ridge and Tidbinbilla Peak. From the peak follow the ridge over Johns Peak to the Camel Back fire trail again and then back to the cars. Climb: 660m. Cars: 60km ($6). Map: Tidbinbilla. Meet at W.

From the Glendale Crossing we follow the fire trail to the hut at picturesque Brandy Flat, where we will have lunch. Return by the same route. A good walk for families and beginners. Climb: 150m. Cars: 85km ($8). Map: Michelago. Meet at K.

Walk along the final stretch of the Australian Alps Walking Track, including a visit to Booroomba Rocks and Bushfold Flats. Car shuffle required. Cars: 70km ($7). Meet at K.

Sun 31 Aug – COLLINS CREEK CATCHMENT AND BENDOURA ARBORETUM – 14km Easy (7)

This is a circuit walk going first to Bendoura Hut, then south along Chalet and Parrot fire trails. The route back north to the Bendoura arboretum is along Wombat fire trail, where we will see lots of tree ferns in the gullies. After we explore the arboretum, the only one left in the ACT following the 2003 fires I believe, it is just a short walk back to the cars. All on fire trails. Climb: 300metres. Cars: 100km ($10). Sat 6 Sept – BLUE RANGE, DAFFODILS AT SHERWOOD HOMESTEAD SITE & MT DOWLING – 13km Easy (6)

This is a relaxing ramble from Blue Range Hut (off Brindabella Road to Piccadilly Circus) to the daffodils at the old Sherwood Homestead site. From here we proceed to Mt Dowling for lunch with panoramic views, returning by a different route that includes some hills. Mostly forest roads and bush tracks. Daffodils should be in flower. Cars: 90km ($9). Map: Cotter Dam. Meet at W

Sun 7 Sept – BUNGONIA GORGE – 8km Med (11)
Leader: Peter W
A classic, great, varied, but hardish walk. A steep walk down a rough track from the car park to the gorge, then a scramble over and under very large boulders of Bungonia Canyon with spectacular cliffs, then rock-hop and path down the creek to Shoalhaven River for lunch. There is a steep climb of 600m back to the cars on a path, with views. Cars: 220km ($22 plus NSWNP entrance fee). Map: Caoura. Meet at Q, leaving at 8.00am***.

Mon 8-Wed 10 Sept – AROUND QUILTYS PACK WALK – 45km Med-hard

A three-day walk in the Budawangs from the Nerriga entrance to Morton National Park. Visit The Vines, Hidden Valley, Styles Creek and possibly the top of Quiltys Mountain. Madeleine H This is an interesting area of open forest and natural valley-bottom grasslands about 15km east of Yass. Flora are different from those around Canberra and we may see some early Spring flowers. Climb: 300m. Cars: 120km ($12). Map: Gunning. Meet at NL at 8.00am***.

Would anyone like to join me on an exploration of the Bogong peaks? This area used to be famous for bad scrub, but now it is probably at least no worse than Namadgi. Details to be determined. Dates are flexible. Please get in touch by 12 September if you are interested; earlier if you want to contribute to detailed plans. Cars: approx 380km ($38). Map: Talbingo.

From the car park on Doctors Flat Road near Dingo Dell in the Brindabella National Park we walk along the Baldy Range fire trail to a high point and then follow a ridge down about 350m to Mountain Creek. Then follow creek to junction with California Creek and back to Doctors Flat Road at Top Crossing. Some rough country. Then back to cars along road. Climb: about 250m. Cars: 80km ($8). Map: Umburra. From the car park we follow the Alpine Track footpad through wet and dry forest to the beautiful Bushfold Flats. We then follow the fire trail back towards Apollo Road, and then on a rough footpad up the Old Apollo Road to the cars. A short car shuffle. Climb: 450m. Cars: 90km ($9). Sat 27 Sept – CORN TRAIL – 20km Med (11)

Cross over walk that follows the early colonial packhorse route from the coast up Clyde Mountain. Climb/descend 700m on a reasonable track. Some views, a wide range of vegetation including river rain forest. Lunch at Buckenbowra River. Note that the start point at the top is changed, and now the walk is 2km longer. Cars: 240km ($24). Maps: Araluen, Monga. Meet at Q, leaving at 8.00am***.

Sun 28 Sept – Mount Clear Car Park to Long Flat and NSW border, Return by Grassy Creek – 18km Med (9)

From the Mount Clear car park walk through gently undulating country to Long Flat, and on to the NSW border where we will have lunch, ‘interstate’. Return off track via Grassy Creek. Climb: 200m. Cars: 160km ($16). Maps: Colinton and Bredbo. Meet at K.
