Sun 1 Jul Corner Hill, Yanununbeyan Reserve 7 km Easy (7)
Leader: John C. This is a walk to see the very dry forest of this area and the Queanbeyan river in tranquil setting. A chance to see the area just upstream from the Googong Foreshores Reserve. We start near Corner Hill on Woolcara Lane, and walk to Corner Hill, down to the Queanbeyan River, retrace our steps and do an arc through the forest back to the cars. The forest has almost no scrub, and is relatively easy underfoot. Total climb 260 m. Cars: 60 km ($6). Map: Captains Flat. Meet at Q.

Leader: Diana K. We walk from the Namadgi National Park Visitors Centre up the Alpine Walking Track to the fire tower at the top of Mt Tennent for lunch. Return the same way. We position cars at 069432 and 125425(GDA94/WGS84), and walk through the Tinderry Nature Reserve, through a variety of forests along the Round Flat, East Tinderry, and Woolpack Fire Trails to Mount Woolpack. We walk up a track westward to Long Flat Fire Trail, which we follow for about 1 km & then go north to join the Naas Valley Fire Trail & back to the car park. Total Climb 200m. Cars: 120km ($12). Leader: Trevor B. Trevor will conduct a one-day introductory navigation course in a bushland setting within the ACT. The first part of the course will be spent going through some of the principles behind map reading and compass navigation. The second part will apply the theory in navigating around a route of varying difficulty in a bush terrain. If you have (or can borrow) a Silva-type compass (or other brand), bring it along, but dont go and buy one. Mapping material and notes will be supplied. The walk begins from the Burra Rd, entering the Tinderry NP via the Mt Allen Fire Trail. On entering the NP proper the climb to the ridge will be via a spur to the north of the Mt Allen Fire Trail, crossing the West Tinderry Fire Trail on the ridge to explore the rock formations around minor peaks to the north of Twin Tinderry. Return via fire trail. Some rock hopping, about 8 km off trail. Climb 700 m. Cars 90 km ($9). Maps: Michelago and Tinderry. Leader: Mac K From the Boboyan (Yankee Hat) car park we follow the Old Boboyan Road south to Naas Creek. We turn NW to follow Sams Creek Fire Trail along the Naas valley, turning NE to cross the saddle just south of Mount Gudgenby, and return along Bogong Creek. Total climb 350m. Cars: 130 km ($13). Sat 4-Sun 5 Aug ETTREMA GORGE PACK WALK Hard
Leader: Philip G A walk to the spectacular Ettrema Gorge in Morton National Park. The plan is to start from Quiera Clearing and reach the gorge via Transportation Spur. The next day we'll leave the gorge via Myall Creek or Jingles Pass. Rock scrambling and a climb of around 500 metres involved. Contact leader by Wednesday 1 August. Cars: 260 km ($26). Leader: Doug F A round trip from the Boboyan Pine Forest parking area across Bogong Creek to the SE slopes of Little Yankee Hat, the peak nearest Middle Creek. We climb up to the ridgeline and then scramble over the top rocks and over the other side to Middle Creek and then back to the cars. Mostly off track with about 450 m climbing. Leader: Paul N Walk from the Honeysuckle Creek Tracking Station collimation tower car park to a series of rock outcrops named by rock climbers of the ANU Mountaineering Club in the 1970s. These include Legoland, the Sentinel, Easter Island, and Elephants Nest. There should be good views of the Orroral Valley and Namadgi peaks. Return by roughly the same route. Undulating with small climb, less than 100 m. Cars: 80 km ($8). Map: Corin Dam. Meet at K.

Leaders: John & Davinia W After fording the (generally 30 cm deep) upper Shoalhaven River, an easy walk of about 2 km leads to the spectacular Big Hole, 120 m deep. A further 34 km along tracks and fire trails takes us to the Marble Arch site. We then explore some short caves and gorges, which are unusual but very uneven and slippery. You may wish to bring Dunlop Volleys for the river crossing and/or caves. Do bring a torch. Total climb 240m.

Leaders: Di & Mac K. Enjoy a weekend in cabins set in rural Tilba. Meet late Friday afternoon for a pot luck dinner. Saturday climb Mt Dromedary (medium, distance 12 km, height 770m, mostly on track). Saturday night enjoy a barbecue. Sunday Handkerchief Beach, Bogola Head, Fullers Beach coastal walk on good tracks (easy, distance 7 km, height 100m), time for swimming or relaxing. Map: Central Tilba. We will start from the Mount Franklin Road near Piccadilly Circus and wander along Old Mill Road, Bulls Head Creek Road, a short stretch of Blundells Creek Road, as well as some unnamed tracks. Leader: Trevor B.Starting along the Nursery Swamp Walking Trail we head west as we approach the swamp area. There are some Aboriginal paintings on the way. At the saddle above Rendezvous Creek we turn south to visit two peaks before descending towards Nursery Swamp. There are interesting and massive boulders up to and along the ridge. Some tall scrub and rough ground should be expected. The first peak provides good views of Rendezvous Creek and mountains opposite. From Nursery Swamp we return to the cars by the Walking Trail. Wed-Tue 5-11 Sep PACK WALK NAMADGI TRAVERSE Hard (dates negotiable)
Leader: Mary H. This walk will take us from south of Sentry Box Hill to Corin Dam Road over 7 days. We will cross or do side trips to 8 or 9 of Namadgi's rocky peaks on the way. The route is over Sentry Box to Naas Creek; over Gudgenby and 'The Fortress' to Bogong Creek; to Bogong Gap and over Burbidge to Rotten Swamp; over Namadgi to Little Creamy Flats; along a fire trail to Pond Creek Flats (possible side trip to Coronet Peak); up to Cotter Gap; an optional side trip to Split Rock; then follow the ridge line to Mt McKeahnie; finally, over McKeahnie Trig to Corin Dam Road. There will be up to 10 km per day through rough country and frequent thick scrub, with up to 700 metres of climb in a day. The first and last days will be relatively short to allow for the car shuffle between Bradley's Creek and Corin Dam Road. The walk will run some time in the first 2 weeks of September depending on participants preferences.

Leader: Margitta A From Mt Arawang Trig to Cooleman Hill Trig via footpads, the equestrian and other trails. Great views. Bring morning tea. Meet 8.50 am in Namatjira Drive, Kambah, about 200m north of the Kambah Pool Road turn-off.

Leader: Trevor B. This is a circular walk from Square Rock Walk car park and is all off track with some rough sections. We walk north to head for Billy Billy Creek. Over the creek Billy Billy Rocks are ahead up a steep slope and we scramble through the massive boulders to get to the top for extensive views of distant mountains and the Tidbinbilla and Paddys River open areas with the deepspace communication dish visible in the distance. We return by a more gentle route via a prominent boulder outcrop to the WSW and thence mostly downhill to the cars. Total climb 250m. Cars: 70 km ($7). Map: Corin Dam. Meet at K.

Leader: Philip G Fosters Mountain is on the western edge of the Budawangs. The walk starts at the Nerriga entrance to Morton National Park and is partly on tracks. Some rock scrambling across creek gullies and through cliff lines will also be involved. Total climb about 350m. Cars: 240 km ($24). Map: Endrick 1:25000. Contact leader by Wednesday 5 September.

Leader: Doug F Starting at locked gate on the Tinderry Road, head west to the top of a rocky hill then north towards The Onion. A scrubby creek heading east is our next challenge until we supposedly meet a track for the last kilometre. Plenty of rock scrambling, up-and-down and thick bush. Spectacular views. Total climb 500m.
