The former Michael Dowlings Stone Cottage near Nerriga is set up as an accommodation centre where your choice is B&B ($132 twin share), bunkhouse or camping with facilities (self catering) at about $30 per person for two nights. Bookings are essential; maximum number 16 (8 can fit in bunkhouse). There is ready access to the adjacent Moreton National Park. Be energetic or take a good book and just loaf around the river. (Quiltys Mountain: 260m). Drive in Friday evening; drive out Sunday afternoon. Map: Endrick. Cars: 240 km ($24). Leader: Peter B. This walk is mainly on fire trails, or in wide valleys of open forest, grasslands, with no steep or long climbs. Starting near Mount Clear campsite we follow the Naas Valley fire trail to the saddle south of Horse Gully Hut, follow the ridge to the fording place on Naas River, then go back via Shanahans Falls Creek. Mon-Wed 18-20 April—MT KELLY–MID WEEK PACK WALK—Medium Pack
Leaders: Richard & Jenny K. First day we will walk 14 km from Boboyan car park climbing 700 m around Gudgenby Hill up Sams Creek to a campsite for two nights at the top of Sams Creek below Mt Kelly. The second day will be a more leisurely climb of Kelly 300 m with exploratory options. The third day we return to Gudgenby the same way. Expect frost. Mostly fire affected scrub, some on fire trail. Leaders: Pat and Eric P. There are a number of possible approaches to this walk. We shall start from the Nerriga-Yalwal area located between Braidwood and Nowra. A couple of steepish climbs to 300 metres will be involved and we will visit Little Horseshoe Bend and maybe Big Horseshoe Bend. We will inspect the remains of old gold-mining efforts. Sat 23 Apr—HILL 1339 ORRORAL VALLEY—14km Medium
Leader: Pete T. From the Orroral Valley Car park we walk 5 km along the road to the NW, climbing 200m along the way. Near the source of Prairie Dog Ck, we leave the road and climb 200m through medium forest on a heading of roughly north until we reach the rocky knoll marked as point 1339, where we hope to find views over the Valley. After lunch, we will descend steeply to the grassy valley and follow the Orroral River back to the cars. Some rock scrambling is possible. Meet at K.

Leader: Trevor W. From "Chip N Dale" property we climb to Harrisons Peak, then down and up to Mount Foxlow, walking about half on fire trails and half through generally open forest in Yanunbeyan National Park. Total climb 700 m. Cars: 70 km ($7). Map: Captains Flat. Meet at Q.
Sat 30 Apr—MIDDLE CREEK, GUDGENBY AREA—10 Easy (7)
Leader: Paul N. Starting at the Yankee Hat car park, we walk along the track to the rock paintings, where we have morning tea. Then continue up Middle Creek to an unnamed tributary and up to hill 1107 m for lunch. Return, via the Middle Creek cascades, over the open grasslands back to the car park. Total climb 250 m. Sun 1 May—BOBOYAN FOREST CIRCUIT WALK—9km Medium
Leader: Peter B. From the Yankee Hat car park we follow Bogong Ck south then cross to Franks Hut and then lunch at a waterfall on Hospital Ck. After lunch we head north to explore Gudgenby Ck before returning to the cars. Mostly cross-country but not difficult. A nice variety of scenery at an easy pace. Cars: 110 km ($11). Sat 7 May—UPPER SUGARLOAF CREEK, CLYDE MOUNTAIN AREA—8 km Hard Exploratory (13?)
Leader: Peter W. Starting from the fire trail near the top of the Corn Trail, I intend to go 1 km east through the umbrella fern plateau to 681610, go 3 km down the open spur to 709604, then it is (only?!) 4 km 600 m back to the car up the creek tributary. This creek looks good. Guaranteed wilderness, waterfalls, and rainforest. We can climb out to the spur if and when the going gets difficult. Cars: 280 km ($28). Map: Monga. Meet at Q at 8 a.m. Please contact the leader by 30 March if interested in going because walk will be postponed if the forest is wet and leechy.
Sat 7 May—BLUE GUM HILL (MT LINCOLN) & EMU FLAT—13 km Medium (10)
Leader: Trevor B. This is a triangular walk from Smokers Trail car park and is mostly off track with some rough sections after an initial 1 km along the trail. We turn off the trail and head for the open and rocky NW spur to climb the last 250 m to Blue Gum Hill for lunch and extensive views of surrounding mountains. The return journey takes us along a gently undulating ridge SW with some views N to find an unnamed hill top near Emu Flat. We turn N to pass through Emu Flat and rejoin the trail near where we left it. Total climb 500m. Cars: 70 km ($7). Map: Corin Dam. Meet at K.

Leader: Mac K From the locked gate at the south end of the Old Boboyan Road we walk along Naas Creek, past the Boboyan Homestead to Luton’s Crutching Shed. Family Walk. Leader: Chris H. Bring back all those fond mammaries of parenthood with a Mother’s Day walk to Nursery Swamp followed by scones and high tea at Orroral Campground. Sun 15 May—HUME AND HOVEL TRACK BETWEEN MICALONG CREEK AND LOG BRIDGE CREEK CAMPSITES—18 km Medium (10)
Leader: Peter W. All on-track. The plan is to walk the Micalong Creek section of the track that we have not seen so far on day walks. This walk is mainly through Eucalyptus forest. We will start and finish at points on the Wee Jasper Road, and access that track by using pine-forest access trails about 2 km long. If we can drive along these access trails we can cut 4 km off the walk. Total climb 500 m, done in two sections. Cars: 120 km ($12). Map: Bobby’s Plains, Couragago. Meet at W.

Leaders: Pat and Eric P. From the Smokers Trail car park above Corin Dam Road we will find a route through the bush to pick up the track to the Namadgi Visitor Centre at Tharwa. A side-trip to Mount Tennent peak may be possible. Up to a 1000 metres of climb will be involved. This is a long walk (9 km and 5 hours off track, 9 km and 2 hours on track), and we need to walk at a good pace. A car shuffle will be involved. Cars: 100 km ($6). Maps: Corin Dam, Williamsdale. Leader: Peter W. Starting on Wild Cattle Flat Road, 10 km ESE of Captains Flat. The walk is off-track in the Tallaganda National Park. The walk is in undulating country, with no serious scrub, with very varied and nice forest, and beautiful clearings along the creeks with tussock and parkland. Total climb 320 m. Leader: Judy G. A small climb of 150 m initially to the ridge fire trail. Fine views across Lake George. The walk follows a fire trail through undulating open timber. We return to the cars on a dirt road along the edge of the lake. Cars: 60 km ($6). Map: Sutton. Meet at Q.

Leader: Doug F. From Mulloon Creek ford on the Mulloon fire trail, a steady climb through some scrub to a ridge leading to Palerang, total climb 480 m. Leader: Maureen F. Set out from the Arboretum along Sunny Corner Trail to weir. Then cross Condor Creek and climb 470 m through scrub to Hill 1215 for lunch. Leader: Trevor B. This is a circular walk from Square Rock Walk car park and is all off track with some rough sections. We walk N to head for Billy Billy Creek. Over the creek Billy Billy Rocks are ahead up a steep slope and we scramble through the massive boulders to get to the top for extensive views of distant mountains and the Tidbinbilla and Paddys River open area with the deep space communication dish visible in the distance. We return by a more gentle route via a prominent boulder outcrop to the WSW and thence mostly downhill to the cars. Total climb 250m. Cars: 70 km ($7). Map: Corin Dam. Meet at K.

Leader: Jillian B. From the Glendale Crossing we follow the fire trail to the hut at picturesque Brandy Flat, where we will have lunch. Return by the same route. Leader: Doug F This classic walk begins at the top car park in Tidbinbilla Nature Park and goes via part of the old Lyre Bird Track and a prominent steep ridge to Snowy Corner. Leader: Trevor B. Starting along the Nursery Swamp Walking Trail we head W as we approach the swamp area. There are some Aboriginal paintings on the way. At the saddle above Rendezvous Creek we turn S to visit two peaks before descending towards Nursery Swamp. There are interesting and massive boulders up to and along the ridge. Some tall scrub and rough ground should be expected. The first peak provides good views of Rendezvous Creek and mountains opposite. From Nursery Swamp we return to the cars by the Walking Trail. Leader: Robyn K. From the car park on the Boboyan Road near Gudgenby homestead turnoff we walk on track along the open grassland valley to what’s left of Rowleys hut. Then on to the rock paintings. Leader: Mac K From the Yankee Hat car park, we follow the Yankee Hat walking track before heading due East up the ridge to Yankee Hat.
